Following the runaway success of Star Wars in 1977, television and movie companies rushed to cash in on the popularity of the sudden boom in science fiction. A lot of movies were made quickly with low budgets, but one did stand out among the rest, Battlestar Galactica!
With two seasons of a hit show in the seventies, a made for tv movie that was shown in cinemas and a brief revival in the early 80s, Battlestar Galactica was extremely popular and gained a huge following that still remains strong to this day. In the early 2000s the show was rebooted and gave us a much more grown up and darker Battlestar Galactica and again became a cult sensation.
A few games have been released over the years, including the now almost legendary space combat game from FASA in the late 80s, and a board game which sees you trying to unmask the identity of Cylon infiltrators based around the reboot.
Now Ares Games have just released Battlestar Galactica Starship Battles, a fast paced combat game that lets you recreate dog fights between space craft in the Battlestar Galactica universe!
Ares Games are no strangers to dogfighting games having released the hugly popualr Wings of Glory several years ago.
The two player game comes with two MKII Colonial Vipers and two Cylon Raiders, as well as control panels, movement and manoeuvre templates, dice and much more.
It looks very likely that Ares will do for Battlestar Galactica, what Fantasy Flight Games did for X-wing and this is certainly a game.to.look out for.
