Last year Marvel fans were left shocked when parent company Disney parted ways with Guardians of the Galaxy writer and director James Gunn over historic tweets made by the 37 year old film maker almost a decade earlier.

The fate of the third movie was in limbo and wrestler turned actor Dave Battista was on record as being unwilling to return to the franchise unless Gunn was reinstated.
Gunn had previously been hired to write and direct a sequel to D.C.s Suicide Squad which is currently in pre production and due to start principal filming soon.
With Gunns reinstatement fans hopes for a fitting closure to the franchise may now be finally realised and Gunn has stated that the third movie will see a totally new direction for the characters.
