New Legion Units Announced. Fantasy Flight Games

For a movie franchise that is over forty years old now, Star Wars does not seem to be running out of steam anytime soon.

A brand new live-action television show The Mandalorian is gearing up for its premiere soon, new cartoons announced, and of course, the trailer for Episode IX is about to drop any day now (rumor has it that it’s tomorrow April 12th). It really does seem that once again the world has gone Star Wars crazy all over again!

Following the announcement recently of Star Wars Legion Clone Wars Core Set from Fantasy Flight Games, the company has just teased not one but two brand new units for this excellent miniatures game.

First up is the Dewback Rider, something that was in the original cut of the cult 1977 Star Wars movie but ended up on the cutting room floor, until it was finally reinstated in the revamped and remastered edition of the movie.

Dewbacks are giant lizards that are native to the desert planet of Tatooine and while they are pretty slow and ponderous they make great mounts and have much like the Bantha been utilised as riding animals.  The Galatic Empire soon began to utilise these docile creatures as they are ideal to traverse the harsh deserts of the planet Tatooine, and in a cut scene from the original movie, a Stormtrooper rider could be seen sitting astride a Dewback.  This image was only available as a Topps card for many years till it the release of the remastered versions of the movies.

Now you can soon field these creatures in your forces thanks to the release of the Dewback Rider Unit Expansion for Star Wars Legion!

With three weapons options for the rider, including a heavy blaster and a shock prod, this is an ideal support unit for those who don’t want to take a walker.

Hopefully, Bantha units may not be too far behind.

Next up we have the Shoretroopers first seen on the planet Skarif during Star Wars Rogue One.  These troopers wear a visibly different style of trooper armour from standard Stormtroopers and are equiped with the right gear and weaponry that patroling a costal enviroment such as Skarif may entail.

The expansion contains five regular troopers and a squad leader and a heavy weapons trooper with a mortar!

While they are ideal for costal and aquatic enviroments, they are by no means limited to such theatres and are among the elite of the Empires troops.

Both the Dewback Rider Unit and Shoretrooper Expansions are available to order from Fantasy Flight Games .  Gamers Web recommends 6s2hit.com for great value and up to 25% discount on retail prices!

Thanks for this article, I didn’t know that the Dewback was put back and forth. I’ll definitely buy both the Dewback and the Shoretroopers boxes as soon as they are available. I think there is a typo with Scarif (no k)
