In Space No One Can Hear You Roleplay! Free League Publishing

Next month will see the fortieth anniversary of the release of one of the most influential movies in cinema history. Ridley Scott unleashed Alien onto an unsuspecting public on May 25th 1979 and the rest they say is history!

Now in this year of celebration a large number of events and tie ins with this much loved horror and science fiction franchise are to be released. Recently announced among them to tie in with the anniversary of the premiere of this much loved movie. was a brand new roleplaying game set in the universe of the xenomorphs we love so well.

Simply titled Alien the Roleplaying Game later in 2019 we will get a new take on the dark mythos inspired by Ridley Scott, HR Geiger and James Cameron. Coming from the extremely talented hands of Free League Publishing, masterminds behind the multi award winning Tales from the Loop and Mutant Year Zero, and using the same iconic system to power the games mechanics.

The last official roleplaying game set in this universe was the ill fated Aliens game from Leading Edge Games back in the late 1980s, a good game but sadly lacking in support.

Free League are dedicated to capturing the dark feel of this hostile universe and if you have ever looked through any of their games before you will understand why they are the ideal choice to get behind the project!

The game is due to launch in late 2019 and will be available to preorder soon, and as of yet no distribution partner has been announced but the smart money is on our good friends at Modiphius Entertainment who distribute both Mutant Year Zero and Tales from the Loop!

From the Press Announcement.

The ALIEN tabletop roleplaying game will be a beautifully illustrated full-color hardcover book, both presenting the world of ALIEN in the year 2183 and a fast and effective ruleset designed specifically to enhance the ALIEN experience. The game can be played in two distinct game modes:

Cinematic play is based on pre-made scenarios that emulate the dramatic arc of an ALIEN film. Designed to be played in a single session, this game mode emphasizes high stakes and fast and brutal play. You are not all expected to survive.

Campaign play is designed for longer continuous play with the same cast of player characters over many game sessions, letting you explore the ALIEN universe freely, sandbox style.

The rules of the game is based on the acclaimed Year Zero Engine, used in award-winning games such as Tales from the Loop and Mutant: Year Zero, but adapted and further developed to fully support and enhance the core themes of ALIEN: horror and action in the cold darkness of space.

The Setting

The year is 2183little more than three years since the destruction of the Hadleys Hope colony on LV-426, the disappearance of the USS Sulaco, and the closing of the prison and lead works on Fiorina 161. The loss of a Sulacos Colonial Marine unit along with these Weyland-Yutani sponsored outposts, and the implications of corporate foul play stemming from these incidents, have created an air of distrust between the company and the United Americas.

To add fuel to the fire, conflicts between the rival sectors of space have increased exponentially in the past five years. While unconfirmed, many believe that Hadleys Hope was a test site for one of Weyland-Yutanis bioweapons and that an enemy state sent a warship to nuke it from orbit. Others believe that the Company is working with a rogue nation to assume control of the colonies on the Frontier.

The 2180s are a dangerous time to be alive.
