There are characters who make a real impact in cinema, they build up legions of fans around the world, though for some often their screen presence is all but fleeting.
Case in point is Boba Fett, intergalactic bounty hunter and gun for hire, he has had as information written about him almost as much as the most popular characters in n science fiction, despite his screen presence in his first appearance on film being a mere six and a half minutes during Empire Strikes Back and just over ten minutes before he meets his demise in Return of the Jedi!
So what makes this character so popular? He doesn’t capture Han Solo (Darth Vader sees to that), he is not a very good shot, and even falls foul to a lucky hit from Han Solo who manages to propel the bounty hunter flying off into the mouth of the dreaded Sarlac pit (and Solo was blinded at the time due to his recent imprisonment in Carbonite).
When you look at it that way he is little more than a guy who looks really cool and does very little. Sure he was expanded a lot in the animated shows, and even had a small role play in the prequel movies, but he is basically just a guy with really good armour and a jet pack.
I know some may think that I am being way to critical and harsh here, and perhaps to a degree I am, but while he may not be the most perfect character in the movies, he certainly makes up for that in Fantasy Flight Games excellent Star Wars Legion!
Rather than being the Mary Sue of Legion, Boba Fett is a strong character that is extremely agile and comes with some pretty nasty surprises for the unsuspecting Rebel commander! He can reign down fire from afar, do hit and run tactics and become a real thorn in someone’s side quite easily.
Coming in at 140 points he is not cheap and a full 30 points more than Chewbacca. You are allowed up to two Operative units in your games so fielding Boba Fett with the soon to be released Bossk is bound to be a winner!
Fett is fast, I mean speederbike fast and has a movement range of 3 which when combined with his Jump of 2 means he can cross the tabletop very quickly and ignore most terrain.
He is pretty average when it comes to wounds with just 5, though his nerve is 3 which can come in handy. He has some other pretty amazing abilities such as Arsenal 2, Sharpshooter 2, Impervious and Bounty make him well worth the high points cost.
Boba Fett is ideal for capturing objectives and has the firepower to hold onto them, making your opponents think twice before trying to wrest one away from you!
His command cards allow Boba to use his Zx flame projector or the Z-6 rocket from his jetpack, both of which can pretty much devastate bunched troops, and with his wrist whipcord launcher allows him to get a free action if he is engaged with a unit with an imobloize token on it.
Hes the perfect foil to.both Emperor Palpatine and Darth Vader who only move at speed range one, and also can take on large units quite easily.
