Tag you’re It! Sabine Wren preview.

I like Star Wars, it is not my favorite science fiction setting as that honor goes to Star Trek, but I like it none the less. I’ve seen all of the movies over a few dozen times and watched both Star Wars ( long before the A New Hope tag was added) over forty times at the cinema during its first cinema run in the UK and The Empire Strikes Back twenty times during its first cinema run.
I’ve been a very avid roleplayer for 45 years now and always loved the immersion of the Star Wars universe, with some of the best games I have ever run or played in having taken place in that galaxy far, far away!
I did try to keep with the expanded universe of books and comics and animated shows but there was far too much to stay current with and sadly a few things slipped.
One of the things that did slip was Star Wars: Rebels, the hit animated series and though I am aware of the show and some of the characters, it’s all more or less brand new to me!
So when Fantasy Flight Games announced earlier this year that they would be releasing Sabine Wren as an operative for their excellent Star Wars Legion miniatures game, naturally I was intrigued.
I have heard of Sabine before, a good friend of mine and amazing cosplayer Joanne Alexander has cosplayed as her more than once and I have Sabine and her TIE Fighter for X-Wing, though I have yet to use it.

So recently Fantasy Flight Games poster details of the character for Legion on their site as the model is due for release very soon.

Sabine is a Mandalorian warrior and artist who fights alongside the Rebellion against the evil forces of the Galactic Empire.

Now as I stated I don’t really know that much about Sabine Wren, or for that matter the other characters in Star Wars Rebels (though I am about to rectify this over the weekend with some binge watching) but looking over the cards previewed she seems to be a pretty solid character and hopefully once she is out I can give more honest review.

Sabine comes in at 140 points and is an Operative in much the same way as Chewbacca and Boba Fett.  Like Fett she wears Mandalorian Battle Armour which she has customised and is painted in bright and garish colours.

Sabine has several things in common with Fett, her speed of 3 gives her a real advantage when claiming objectives, add to that she also has Jump 2 so can easily clear most terrain obstacles on the battlefield.  Add to this Impervious which allows her to gain extra dice on saving (and she saves on a red dice and turns surges into saves) if they have the keyword Pierce X (with X being the number of Pierce so Darth Vader has Pierce 3 so Sabine would get 3 red dice to save), she also has the keyword Nimble which gives her a dodge token if she had already used one.

She also has Gunslinger which allows her to gain another attack action for free if she has performed a ranged attack, but it has to be against a different unit.

She has some good strong attacks with her blasters and also wields a Darksaber, which we will look more at once I review the miniature! Speaking of which the sculpt looks fantastic and comes with a second head sans helmet and a second arm wielding a Darksabre.

Her command cards allow her to help troops by placing down graffiti tokens with symbols of the Republic on them, which in turn gives the unit extra dice to roll when trying to rally.  She is a master at exploding things and also gains a command card called Explosions which allows her to place two thermal charges on the battlefield and detonate them when she wishes.

Next Operative up will be Bossk which should be previewed very shortly.

The Sabine Wren Operative Expainsion will be available soon from Fantasy Flight Games .  Gamers Web recommends 6s2hit.com for great value and up to 25% discount on retail prices!
