X-Wing gets bigger. Fantasy Flight Games

I was originally meant to post this during the week, but got sidetracked so here goes.

Just in case you hadn’t heard, Big things are coming to Star Wars X-Wing 2nd Edition (again), with two pieces of news being teased by creators Fantasy Flight Games this week.

First up is the announcement of the return of the big ships to the game, redesigned to fit in with the new rule set and even a conversion kit to allow players who already own the larger kits from first edition to port them over for the new edition.

Larger models have been around in X-Wing for a while now with one of the most popular being the Tantive IV which was first seen in the opening scenes of Star Wars Episode IV A New Hope as it tries desperately to escape from an Imperial Star Destroyer.

I remember watching Star Wars for the very first time and the main thing that blew me away was the opening scene, when it takes nearly ten seconds of the Star Destroyer to make its pass on the screen, giving you a sense of the huge size of these spacecraft and that has stuck with me for over forty years now (forty two in December in fact).

The ships will include the Tantive IV, as well as  C-ROC Cruiser for the Scum and Villainy faction, with each featuring all the dails, cards and upgrades needed to use them in your games of X-Wing 2nd Edition.

Of course huge ships are not for everyone, but I am sure that most people would love to be able to play huge battles of X-Wing, recreating some of the iconic moments from the movies.  Well now is your chance to do just that with the announcement of Star Wars X-Wing: Epic Battles.

This new expansion for the game will allow for up to eight players to take part at the same time and control wings of fighters as they vye for superiority and survival in the cold depths of space.  The expansion will feature a new way to control multiple fighters at the same time, by making them part of wings which will all move in formation using the control wing tool to keep them moving in the same direction and facing.

Using a simple mechanic, this will let you chose a model to act as your wing leader and everything is done from that model, rather than using multiple dials and you can upgrade your wing leader as well.

Both of these expansions will be out in the next few months and are now available for pre order now from Fantasy Flight Games.  Gamers Web recommends 6s2hit.com for great value and up to 25% discount on retail prices!
