A Grand Preview. Fantasy Flight Games

When it was announced a while back that there would be a new core set for Fantasy Flight Games excellent Star Wars: Legion miniature game, fans went nuts!

Even more so when the contents of the new core box, fans seemed to lose it and as is the case these days every single aspect of the release was analysed and pulled apart by forums, groups and of course YouTubers.

Now we are only a few weeks away from the launch of this highly anticipated product and once again Fantasy Flight Games are teasing with more information and details about the factions in the new core set.  This time they take a look at the Grand Army of the Republic from the Clone Wars era of the Star Wars timeline and the first three prequel movies of the Star Wars Saga!

Of course, the new core set, Star Wars Legion: The Clone Wars; will be another starter boxed set and will feature two factions for players to choose from, the Grand Army of the Republic or the Separatist Alliance.

The Republic miniatures in the new core box will feature two units of Phase 1 Clone Troopers, a BARC Speeder to support them and to lead them, General Obi Wan Kenobi one of the most famous characters in the history of the franchise and most loved.

The Clone Troopers come in squads of seven models, which includes two heavy weapon options (DC-15 Phase 1 Trooper, and Z-6 Phase 1 Trooper) and of course your squad leader.

The units are more expensive than regular stormtroopers at 52 points for a bare unit, but they do get the Fire Support key word which allows them to combine firepower at a target that another unit is shooting against.  Ideal for those pesky battledroids that will outnumber you almost every time.

The BARC Speeder is super fast with a speed of 3, but can be equipped with a fixed rear or forward gunner that will sacrifice its speed down to 2, but give it a fixed rear arc with a pretty nasty weapon, and the BARC can be assembled with the sidecar being able to swing to the rear of the speeder.

General Obi Wan Kenobi leads the Grand Army of the Republic forces in the core set and features some cards that are ideal for giving his fellow troopers Surge tokens and allowing them to do things that they would normally not be able to do otherwise.

Kenobi also can gain dodge tokens by simply using a dodge action or issuing an order and though he comes in at 175 points, he is pretty formidable with is lightsabre which does two white, two black, and two red damage and has Critical 2 Pierce 2, and Impact 2 as its keywords.

The miniatures look fantastic and I really am looking forward to the release of this new set, which should be the end of September if current shipping estimates are correct and you can expect a full review as soon as I can get a copy of the game.

The Separatist Alliance miniatures will be previewed next and hopefully, we will get to see more of the cards then.

Star Wars Legion: The Clone Wars Core set is currently up for preorder from Fantasy Flight Games.  Gamers Web recommends 6s2hit.com for great value and up to 25% discount on retail prices!
