Welcome to a new feature here on Gamers Web where I will turn the spotlight away from games companies and turn it towards the real bread and butter of the hobby, the gamers themselves!
When it comes to games communities, we are quite fortunate here in Edinburgh that there are several that meet in various locations around the city. From traditional and historical war gaming at SESWC (Southeast Scotland Wargames Club), too roleplaying games at ORC (Open Roleplaying Community), there is a lot to choose from.
Recently a new club known as The Ark launched at an historic venue, which also.happens to be my place of work, and now as the club enters is third month, we learn of the sad demise of one of the longest running clubs in Edinburgh, ELG.
Edinburgh League.of Gamers was a great venue for those wanting to play games each week and ran for many years, but sadly it closed its doors for the final time recently and the club disbanded.
Word of The Ark Games Club has already begun to spread through the local community, mainly down to.the discount scheme that offers huge savings on products, but also down to the friendly atmosphere in the Cornerstone Centre of St John’s Episcopal Church right in the very heart of Edinburgh!
This week saw a huge influx of gamers joining and visiting the venue for the first time and with it came a large number of board gamers from across the city, adding more strength of numbers to the fledgling community.
With a large number of gamers playing Euro Games this week, as well as Warhammer 40,000, Aliens vs Predator and Bolt Action, there certainly was an eclectic mix of things to choose from.
The Ark Games Club meets at the new Cornerstone Centre a brand new award winning extension on St John The Evangelist Church found in the centre of Edinburgh on Princes Street. This is an ideal location for all kinds of games, with scope to cater for tournaments and events as they crop up.
But its not just about meeting up to game each week, its also about saving money on your hobby and giving you more to spend! The Ark Games Club offers a yearly membership at just £10.00 per year that will not only knock 50p off your weekly admission fee (saving you £25.00 in a year) but will also give you a discount saving of 25% off retail prices on games and products from some of the largest games companies around such as Games Workshop! And what’s more this great saving is open to anyone who joins, no matter where they live which means you can become a member of Ark Games Club online and you will get your discount even if you live elsewhere!
Gamers Web is proud to be an official sponsor of The Ark Games Club and you will see weekly posts and updates on this exciting new club and its amazing venue setting.
The Ark Games Club meets each Wednesday evening 6pm till late, everybody is welcome and the club is located at:
