It is with great sadness that we learn today of the passing of very talented actor, writer and director René Auberjonois, who has died at the age of 79!
Though best known for his work on television shows such as Benson, Boston Legal and of course as Constable Odo on Star Trek Deep Space Nine, René Auberjonois had a career that spanned many decades and appeared in numerous television shows and films during his long and varied career.
From voice over work for computer games such as Fallout: New Vegas, and dozens of hit animated shows, including Ben 10, to his work on one of the best cult movies of the 1970s playing Father John Mulchay in the big screen adapation of M.A.S.H, he was a very popular actor and always a hit with the fans.
René appeared in not only Deep Space Nine, but also Enterprise, and an uncredited role in Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country. He even appeared alongside future Starfleet Captain Janeway, Kate Mulgrew in Mrs Columbo.
Sadly René succumbed to lung cancer and passed away today. Our many thanks to Rene for his years of sterling work and a huge legacy he leaves behind and deepest condolences to all his family and friends.
It has not been a good year for Star Trek fans as so many well loved members of the Trek family have passed this year. We lost much loved Star Trek writer and Trek Icon DC Fontana on December 2nd, Charlie X actor Robert Walker on December 5th and earlier this year the much loved and respected actor and fellow Deep Space Nine costar Aron Eisenberg who passed away on September 21st at just 50.
Though René is best remembered as Odo by most, for me he will always be that naive Catholic priest stuck in the hell of the Korean war.
