Last year I took a look at some of the Dorning Kindersley Star Wars books such as the Visual Dictionary and how they could be used for roleplaying and miniature games. Now I am turning my attention towards the Aliens universe and taking a look at Alien: The Wayland-Yutani Report by S.D. Perry from Titan Books.
Alien: The Wayland-Yutani Report is a hardbound coffee table book from Titan Books that came out in 2016 just before the release of Covenant and charts the history and timeline of not only that Alien franchise but also the Wayland-Yutani Corporation and how they have been a key factor throughout the movies and is told as if this was an eyes-only dossier.
Filled with hundreds of photographs and illustrations that span the history of the franchise, this book is an ideal reference point for both the Alien roleplaying game from Free League Publishing and as a painting reference for the excellent Aliens: Another Glorious Day in the Corps board game from Gale Force Nine.
The book gives a wealth of information in the form of the dossier style report, as compiled for the fictional company, and also has special segments such as a fold-out illustration of the USCN Sulaco, and the report that Lambert made during the first movie when Kane was allowed back onto the Nostromo. Add to that a break down on how the xenomorphs change and adapt and a look at the synthetic life forms.
This is also an excellent reference for cosplayers due to vast wealth of images of uniforms, costumes and props from the movies, much like the Star Wars reference books.
This hardback book is available from most good book stores and I got mine from Amazon UK and it is highly recommended and I really can’t wait to get stuck in and read all of this wealth of background information.
