Its a brave new era for the Seattle based games company Atomic Mass Games as they move up into the big leagues and take over the running of the Star Wars franchises from Fantasy Flight Games. The live stream only finished a short while ago so here is a quick look at what went on.
In what can only be described as a full house, Simone Elliot and Will Shick delivered a great live stream over on the Atomic Mass Games Twitch TV channel tonight. When I say full house, I mean it was teaming with thousands of Star Wars gaming fans very eager to see what Atomic Mass had in store for their favorite games now that they are taking care of the franchise for parent company Fantasy Flight Games.
After introducing themselves and briefly talking about their roles, both Will and Simone began diving deep into the plans that Atomic Mass Games has (though not all of them naturally) for the next two years or so, hinting at what was coming and some reveals along the way.
The chat was going crazy with a lot of talk about what was coming out and to be honest with over 5,000 people in the room it can be a little hard to keep track at times. There were a few people who were not being at all nice and hitting out at Atomic Mass Games for the designers of the Star Wars games no longer being in control, but it soon settled down once the stream got underway. It wasn’t very long but was pretty exciting for Star Wars fans and the stream touched on Organised Play, the creation of all new forums dedicated to each of the three games (though they did mention a fourth!) and a mini release schedule (March 26th for X-Wing, Armarda April 16th, and the Legion vehicles will be May 20th) for the models that were shown off (check out the gallery below).
There will be an announcement again tomorrow detailing what is going on going forward with Organised Play and it was also announced that Star Wars would be joining the other IP that Atomic Mass have Marvel Crisis Protocol on a bi-weekly live stream on the Twitch TV channel, every Wednesday and Friday, while Marvel Crisis Protocol would still remain on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
A few things were shown off for X-Wing, Armada and Legion which are all due out in the next three months, which will please a lot of folks. There are no plans to do another edition of Star Wars X-Wing as the current edition is doing really well and well if it aint broken as they say!
Though it was mentioned briefly that there was going to be a fourth game, no more details where given about it, but it won’t be before next year as all of the releases slated for 2021 will all be those designed by the Fantasy Flight Games team over the past couple of years.
